The Christmas season is upon us, and if you're like me, you probably love this time of year. The lights, the songs, the food, our families . . . the joy and busyness of the season can be exhilarating. But we all know how much of a distraction all of these good things can be from the real focus of the season. This year, consider working with H.E.L.P. Christmas campaign as a way of reclaiming some of the purpose from the holidays.
As many of you know, one of H.E.L.P.’s Haitian partners is Pastor Gaetan, an amazing man who was caring for 30 orphaned kids before the earthquake with little more than pure faith and determination For the past year, you, the H.E.L.P. tribe, have partnered with Pastor Gaetan to help him care for these children. You’ve helped to get each child sponsored, insuring that our children have their daily, basic needs met. You’ve built homes for them and supported a school. Now, over 200 kids attend school, sponsored teachers teach, and workers are drilling a water well.
This Christmas, we have a chance to continue to work. Pastor Gaetan has asked us to help build a playground, including a soccer field, basketball court and a play-scape. We're going to build all of this, but we're also going to fix the current property for more development work down the road.
30 kids live inside a compound. They sleep, eat, and attend school there. They obviously don’t have a lot of luxuries, so this playground will be vital to their development. With it, the kids will be able to spend hours laughing, playing and being active. Furthermore, another 200 students will be able to use the playground on a weekly basis. The reality is tragic: for many kids around the world, something as simple as play can be complex. Haiti has few parks or playgrounds. Let’s change that this Christmas!
In order to prepare the land, purchase the playground and have the playground installed, it will cost approximately $15,000.
